REALTOR® of Distinction: Susan Klavohn-Bryant

Susan Klavohn-Bryant feels as though her entire life has led her to where she is now - in the profession of real estate. Resourcefulness, determination, commitment and success are attributes that Susan learned at an early age.

“From our earliest years, my sister and all our cousins, as well as I were greatly influenced by our grandmother, who single-handedly ran a boarding house until her death in her late 70s,” says Susan. During the Great Depression, her grandmother unexpectedly became a widow with four children to support. “With her ‘Arkansas Grit’ and determination, Grandmother quickly assessed her situation and turned her lovely home, her only asset, into her means of support for her herself and her family.”

Susan’s family history is also responsible for teaching her to be patient, cautious, and concerned for the long-term needs of those purchasing real estate. “When I was about five years old, my financially conservative parents started their six-year quest for a new home to purchase,” she says. After much time researching homes and land, anticipated news came on Christmas Eve of 1958 that a recent offer had been accepted. “My sister and I grew up in that home, our own children have spent time there, and now my four grandchildren have visited there.”

Susan’s education helps clients in their real estate purchases and investments. Since attending UNC Greensboro and Chapel Hill as an Art Education major, Susan has taken classes to help her as a REALTOR®, as well as real estate investor.

For eight years in Charlotte, N.C., she was extensively involved in a construction business. She assisted with the actual design and interiors of many buildings, handled complicated change orders, oversaw the bookkeeping department and handled complaints. “This experience taught me that some subcontractors and installers may not exactly follow the specifications and installation instructions on everything from the foundation ties to the roofing materials,” she says. Today, Susan always orders, attends and pays for an independent home inspection of every new home she sells at the pre-drywall stage before the structural components are covered by insulation and sheetrock. “This is my way of doing everything I can to make sure my clients are getting the best possible construction.”

Susan feels great satisfaction from helping people achieve success. “When I was offered the opportunity to become a Mentor to new agents about a year ago, I readily agreed since I enjoy working with others in a team. Now, I am a Mentor for 14 agents, several of them already top producers in their first year and now building their own teams of ‘Mentees!’” All of their clients receive extraordinary service such as numerous open houses, exposure on more websites, additional advertising, and exceptional assistance with any of their real estate needs. “Building a team of experienced, successful agents is not only of tremendous benefit to all the members of the team, but also to our buyers, sellers, and rental property owners,” Susan concludes.
